Find your Flow

Which Voice Are You Letting Guide You?

back to blog home

Today’s Find Your Flow message is about giving yourself space to hear clearly when doubt, fear, excitement and uncertainty are all competing for your attention.

I’ve been noticing moments of hesitation in myself lately.

Moments where I question what I’m doing?!

I wonder how things will unfold and seek reassurance before taking another step. I’ve been reminding myself to notice which thoughts and whom I’m giving authority to—and whether they’re helping me see clearly–or fall into doubt and scarcity.

You may recognize this in your own life. One part of you feels ready to move forward, another wants to protect what’s familiar, and another is already imagining everything that could go wrong. Other people may have opinions, too. Before long, it can become difficult to hear and know what you actually want.

Each perspective may offer information, but you get to consider how much weight to give it. Fear can point to something that deserves attention without deciding your next step. Excitement can reveal a possibility without accounting for the time, energy and responsibility it would require.

Most importantly, just because you can make something work doesn’t mean you should, or that it’s guiding you toward the life you would love to live.

Sometimes, before trying to figure out the decision, it helps to notice the state you’re making it from.

Have you slept?
Have you eaten?
Are you present?
Have you had a moment to yourself, or have you been responding to demands all day?

Research shows that insufficient sleep can make decision-making and managing emotions more difficult. Stress can also influence how you weigh options and consider future consequences. When you’re tired or overwhelmed, it’s worth giving yourself an opportunity to revisit a question with more rest, support and perspective.

You don’t have to become perfectly calm or eliminate uncertainty before moving forward. You can, however, put yourself in a position to access and trust your knowing, to remember your truth, to see the pros and cons of the whole picture so you have choice.

Here are a few questions to sit with:

• What do I actually know, and what am I assuming or predicting?
• Am I moving toward something I value, or trying to make an uncomfortable feeling go away?
• What deserves my attention that I may be overlooking—the opportunity, the cost, the support I need, what step actually comes first?
• Even if I could make this work, would I love the daily life that comes with it?
• What would help me approach this decision with a clearer mind?

I’ve been thinking of these questions as I stack mini-truths: finding small, clear statements that help me regain perspective, trust and flow.

Here are a few of mine:

“I may not know how this will unfold, but I trust my path.”

“I can gather more information and take my time. There is no rush.”

“This has possibilities and tradeoffs. No matter what I choose I am ok”

“I’ve navigated unfamiliar things before and often things turn out even better than I expected”

“I can take one step and pay attention to how I feel and what I learn.”

Each truth gives you a little more room to breathe, consider and choose. You begin to see beyond the single thought that was taking up all the space.

This week, choose one decision you’ve been circling.

Give yourself a few quiet minutes to write down what you know, what you fear and what you would love.

Then look for a few grounded truths you can return to.

You may still feel uncertain. You may also find that you can hear yourself more clearly—and recognize a next step you’re willing to take.

With love,

Laurin
