Find your Flow

What Deserves Your Time This Season?

back to blog home

Today’s Find Your Flow message is about consciously deciding what deserves your time before life gets busy enough to decide for you.

Do you find yourself feeling like life is already speeding up? Maybe your calendar is beginning to fill, and you’re already saying yes to things scheduled for October and November. Before the holidays are even on your mind, you may notice yourself moving into a more demanding season without consciously choosing how you want to spend your time.

September can bring a sense of urgency before anything on your calendar has really changed. The shift often begins emotionally or mentally first. You start anticipating new routines, responsibilities, deadlines and commitments. Even while there is still open space, you may feel yourself moving out of summer’s slower, more flexible rhythm.

This gives you an opportunity to pause before the season takes over and decide what you actually want to make room for.

This time of year, it’s natural to begin thinking about everything you need to add back into your life. But before you do, it may be worth considering what you don’t want to lose.

Maybe summer gave you more time outside, slower mornings, longer walks or more spontaneous time with people you love. Maybe you rested more, traveled, read, cooked or simply had enough space to hear yourself think. You may have even realized that you don’t feel better when every part of your life is full.

It’s easy to treat those experiences as temporary. The slower mornings were nice, but they belonged to summer. The extra space felt good, but now it’s time to become productive again.

But what if summer wasn’t simply a break from your real life? What if it showed you something about how you want your real life to feel?

You don’t have to recreate an entirely different season inside your current schedule. You can notice what made you feel lighter, healthier, more connected or more like yourself—and decide that some part of it deserves to come with you.

That might mean protecting one morning a week from plans, continuing a walk you began taking or leaving more space between commitments. It might mean sitting down for dinner, calling someone you love or saying no before your calendar becomes so crowded that everything begins to feel like an obligation.

It may also mean finding ways to create more efficiency in your life—not so you can immediately fill the space with something else, but so you can use your time and energy more intentionally. Some things may need to be simplified, delegated or released altogether.

Because when life becomes busy, urgency tends to make your decisions for you. You answer the email, make the appointment, finish the work and take care of everyone else. Meanwhile, the habits and experiences that keep you grounded become the things you promise yourself you’ll return to later.

And later can quietly become months.

So before your calendar fills in all the available space, take a moment to ask yourself:

What truly fills me up?

What made me feel most like myself this summer?

What deserves my time, energy and focus in this next season?

What habits would support my health, fulfillment and productivity?

Where could I create more ease or efficiency?

What am I ready to stop carrying simply because I’ve grown accustomed to carrying it?

You don’t need to overhaul your life or construct the perfect routine. You may only need to decide that the things that nourish you are important enough to protect—even when they don’t appear urgent.

The goal isn’t to prevent life from becoming full. It’s to consciously choose what you allow it to become full of.

Sometimes finding your flow means deciding what matters before the noise gets loud enough to make you forget.

With love,

Laurin
