Today’s Find Your Flow is about building habits, and the unspoken reality that I think all of us experience, no matter how disciplined or committed we are.
Have you ever noticed how easy it is to let a habit slowly slip away?
Not because you stopped believing it mattered, but because life changed.
Maybe you’ve been meaning to get back to working out. Or you’ve missed your meditation practice, stopped journaling, haven’t been getting outside as much, missing those daily walks or let the routines that usually help you feel your best quietly fade into the background.
Life has seasons. Sometimes we’re building a business, raising children, caring for family, moving through uncertainty, or simply carrying more than we realize. During those seasons, even the habits that nourish us can take a back seat.
I think one of the biggest misconceptions we have is that consistency means never falling off track. In reality, consistency has very little to do with perfection. It has everything to do with your willingness to begin again.
If you’ve found yourself wondering, What happened to me? I used to be so consistent, I want to gently remind you that you haven’t lost yourself. You may simply be coming out of a season where your body was focused on getting through. And, remember to see within yourself, where you are being consistent. When one thing falls away, something else or multiple things have taken its place.
The resistance isn’t because you’ve become lazy or undisciplined–your nervous system has simply been working overtime. When we’ve been under distress for long enough, our bodies naturally conserve energy and seek familiarity before they’re ready to expand again.
The beautiful part is that we don’t have to force our way back.
Small, consistent actions gently remind our body that it’s safe to move forward again.
I’ve also noticed that the longer we wait to return to something that supports us, the bigger it becomes in our minds. We convince ourselves we need the perfect morning, the perfect amount of motivation, or the perfect week to start.
But that’s rarely how momentum returns.

Momentum begins with one small decision.
A walk around the block. A short workout. A few pages in your journal. Three slow breaths before reacting. A nourishing meal. It’s through these actions that you remember how to return to yourself. How to choose yourself.
Those moments may seem small, but every time you keep a promise to yourself, you strengthen something far more valuable than motivation.
You strengthen trust.
One thing I remind myself often is not to compare today’s effort to the version of myself from my best season. Instead, I acknowledge the version of me who almost didn’t start today but chose to show up anyway.
That’s where transformation usually happens.
Not during the big breakthroughs, but in the quiet moments when no one is watching. When you decide to lace up your shoes, roll out the yoga mat, open your journal, or simply pause long enough to reconnect with yourself.
Remember you get rewarded in public for what you practice in private. I also tell myself, “I never regret taking care of myself.”
Whether that’s a stretch, a walk, a meditation, an intense workout class, the hot springs or any of the things that my body knows feels good for me.
Give yourself grace for the season you were in, but don’t let that season become your identity. You’re allowed to outgrow old chapters. You’re allowed to return to what nourishes you. You’re allowed to begin again as many times as it takes. There are no rules. The only thing that steals from you is comparison to others or an old version of you that had different priorities and available time.
Every time you return to a habit that supports your well-being, you’re doing more than completing a task. You’re becoming someone who keeps coming home to themselves. Someone who CHOOSES this as their reality…as their must.
This week, instead of asking yourself, How do I get back to where I was? try asking:
- What habit helps me feel most like myself?
- What’s been getting in the way?
- What’s one small version of that habit I can do today?
- How do I want to feel after I finish?
Remember, your future isn’t created by one perfect day. It’s created by the small choices that remind you who you are and what matters most.
Take one small step today.
You don’t have to earn your way back.
You simply have to begin.
With love,
Laurin
