Find your Flow

Not All Uncertainty Feels the Same

back to blog home

Today’s Find Your Flow message is about leaving room for life to surprise you—even when you thought you knew where you were heading.

Sometimes a possibility appears that you weren’t looking for. Something opens within you, and suddenly you can imagine a life you hadn’t considered or thought you were ready for. You may not yet know how it could work or what it may ask of you, but you feel curious, connected and more present as you consider it.

Following that feeling can bring uncertainty and require a tremendous amount of trust. It may ask you to reconsider plans, change routines or loosen your attachment to something you’ve spent time creating. And yet, even with those unknowns, you may notice a sense of ease that shines through your being.

As I navigate multiple transitions myself, I’ve been noticing three different ways uncertainty can feel. You may recognize more than one across the areas of your life.

1. Unstable uncertainty. This is the uncertainty that leaves you feeling ungrounded. The instability feels like chaos, and it seems as though nothing is working. Your body feels tense, your thoughts keep circling, and you feel pressure to do something just to make the discomfort stop. You may need space, support and steadiness before you can hear what comes next.

2. Breakdown uncertainty. Something you’ve been questioning or wanting to change begins to fall apart. A job ends, or a relationship you’ve been unsure of comes to a close. You may feel grief or fear while also recognizing an opening to reorganize. You may not have asked for this aloud, but you know on a spiritual level you did. You don’t have to pretend the experience is easy to begin exploring what could become possible through it.

3. Calling that creates uncertainty. You get a glimpse of something that feels deeply connected to your soul. Following it may require you to change your path quite a bit, but underneath the unknowns, you feel a steadiness and readiness to expand. You’ve been asking for something more, and now an opening appears in a way you couldn’t have planned. These callings can be difficult to ignore.

That third kind of uncertainty is what I felt when an opening appeared to conceive Chloe. I couldn’t know everything that motherhood would ask of me, but I felt deeply connected to welcoming her into my life. It was a “hell yes,” as they say. That clarity is something I can return to through the challenges of motherhood.

Sometimes life seems to reorganize itself in a moment. A possibility appears, things begin to align, and you recognize something you want to follow.

You still have free choice in how you respond and how quickly you move.

For me, the opening to conceive Chloe was just 24 hours, and I stepped into it. Other callings have taken a year or more to fully align.

This is why cultivating connection and flow matters. It helps you hear your openings, find perspective during a breakdown and regain enough steadiness in an unstable season to choose your next step.

It’s also why aligned action matters more than simply saying yes. There were earlier times when I wanted to become a mother, but I didn’t feel that same clarity. I was in fear or my head so I chose instead not to step in at those times. I trusted my timing rather than pushing to make it happen. I can’t know how another path would have unfolded, but I know how different it felt to act from that deeper connection.

You can give yourself room to explore a possibility without immediately reorganizing your entire life around it. Spend time with it, return to your everyday routines and notice what stays with you.

As you check in, ask yourself: Am I feeling clear, excited or pressured?

If I’m feeling excited, I take that as a sign to stop and pay attention. That’s not an aligned knowing. For me, a calling is grounded, simple and quiet. It has a sense of ease, knowing and gratitude. You’re able to stay connected to what you would love without needing to force it into happening and can stay in deep trust.

This week, my invitation is to give yourself a little space to consider:

  • What kinds of uncertainty are you experiencing?
  • Is there a possibility you keep returning to, even though it wasn’t part of your plan?
  • When you imagine it, what feels open in your body, and what feels tense?
  • As you give yourself time, where do you notice more steadiness and connection?
  • What small step could help you explore what you feel drawn toward without requiring a final decision?

Let your answers build curiosity rather than become final statements.
Finding your flow includes giving yourself permission to be surprised by what you would love—and trusting yourself to explore it at a pace that feels aligned.

Here’s to recognizing those divine openings and giving yourself room to follow them.

With love,

Laurin
