Feeling that time crunch as the holidays approach? Or starting to wake up overwhelmed with everything that you want to get done?
My goal today isn’t to give you another thing to-do, rather a system to follow if and when you may need to set aside 20 minutes to manage all you have going on, focus on your well-being, and plan ahead.
Remember: The more you look ahead and organize, the easier tasks can be.
Things don’t just become overwhelming, it’s a stacking and feeling “cluttered” in different aspects of awareness, a symptom of not focusing on your highest values and not being clear on where you’re spending your time.
I invite you to:
Get specific about what you’re carrying from each aspect of awareness.
Energetically-who can you sense in your energetic field? Whose opinions, expectations, doubts are you carrying? Who are you taking responsibility for? (I’m not diving into this now, but remember this isn’t to blame or judge yourself or another…this is just a mirror reflection of what’s in your space as well.)
Physically-what needs attention? What are you tolerating that’s not working for you? Do you have excess clutter? What are your day-to-day environments like? Are you moving your body?
I know for me my ethernet cord broke and things started getting more cluttered around my nightstand and bathroom and I can feel a big difference after a few weeks of this. It may be big or small things.
Digitally: Are things organized? Streamlined? Do you have systems? Are you distracted and wasting time? overspending? focused on building other people’s brands and exposure vs. your own?
Mentally-what’s present in your mind. What do you fill your mind with?
Emotionally-What are you carrying that it’s time to feel fully? Are you suppressing your emotions and caught in the concept of an emotion?
Spiritually– Are you allowing yourself as spirit to flow? Are you accessing your knowing and ease? Are you experiencing trust during uncertainty?
The more you know about what’s causing overwhelm, the easier it is to create a plan.
For me, I decided to organize my daughter’s old clothes. I realized reaching into drawers where I have to sort through items that don’t fit her not only wastes time, it doesn’t feel good and creates frustration in my morning. I ordered new ethernet cords and started clearing out. I’m sending all her newborn stuff we’ve outgrown to storage.
I’m starting to write out my Christmas cards and created a list of gifts I need to buy.
I scheduled some workouts and longer work sessions and they’re focused in my calender. I did a day of financial organization over the weekend….
The more you start to tackle what’s important to you, the easier things get.
Also, anything that’s someone else’s idea of important, delegate or let it go or just chunk what you can.
I’ll give you an example. Digitally: I love organizing Chloe’s photos each month, I haven’t had as much time but I created one large folder inside of a folder I can revisit another time but now I don’t have to see it every day on my desktop.
In the pantry, I don’t want to spend time going through it, so I hired someone to check expiration dates and I came in to edit what we could get rid of.
Now, this may or may not look like an organization project.
I encourage you to keep it small and simple at first to provide the results you’re after. (unless you want to use some time off during the holidays for a project, don’t tackle more than you get complete before you go away or get too sidetracked from what needs to get done.)
I realized once I did a few smaller projects, I had space and momentum to keep going.
Then I had the mental space to plan for the holidays. Once I experienced some more space in each aspect of awareness, all of a sudden I took action on finding a travel nanny and booking a vacation for thanksgiving that I never had the bandwidth to do when I was unconsciously feeling cluttered and out of time.
I know it’s easy not to want to take the time for what may seem like a distraction, but I promise at the end of the day it’s way more efficient than that downtime in front of the tv or needing a distraction.
Once I get going, I’m always reminded, the more space I have in each aspect of awareness, the more time I feel like I have.
Here’s to the start of a flowing, efficient, productive and loving holiday season together.
Best,
Laurin
