Today, I want to cover a foundational topic–body scanning.
And, offer you a short audio meditation to follow along with below.
What is body scanning?
Body scanning simply means getting in touch with your body in its current state.
As you take time to presence what is and be with different parts of your body any stagnant energy starts to move and create space for you both physically and energetically.
With this space, you have the potential for new perspectives and emotions to flow and transform as well.
How does it help?
- It helps you lessen the response of your sympathetic nervous system. That place of fight, flight or freeze.
- It helps you build your body and self awareness
- It helps you focus and build presence
- Helps create emotional stability
- Can improve your quality of sleep because of what you’re processing on a body level beforehand
- Can assist with lessening body aches, tensions and pains
And so much more…
I first started becoming aware of body scanning in yoga class and slowly started integrating it as an awareness tool in my everyday life and with clients.
When is body scanning helpful?
Any time you feel tense, overwhelmed, uncertain, depressed off in some way or just want to be even more present and connected.
I also like to take a few minutes to body scan before a client call, important meeting, going to work out or going into new environments. It helps me ground, get present and connect to how I’d love to show up somewhere and with someone.
As you develop your practice, you may combine it with chakra balancing and energetic separations to help you own your space as well.
There is no set time frame that you need. You can do this paused at a red light in 20 seconds or for 20 minutes or more in any comfortable position or in savasana on your yoga mat.
Work within your desires, what you’re using it for and how much time you have.
Here’s a quick audio meditation to get you started.
Enjoy
Love,
Laurin
