Today’s Find Your Flow message is about how sometimes you just have to start rather than waiting for the inspiration to arrive.
Movement is what allows for momentum, consistency and inspiration to build. Even when we know it’s something we need to do, sometimes it’s not quite something we’d love to do quite yet.
I had been working out consistently, feeling strong and building momentum. Then life became busy, things started stacking up and I stopped going. At first, I told myself I would get back to it tomorrow. But tomorrow kept moving, and suddenly almost ten days had passed.
My energy felt completely different. I knew how important movement was for me, but knowing that didn’t automatically make starting again feel easy.
So the other day, I scheduled a hot yoga class and decided I was going to keep that commitment. A few other things came up and people asked me to do things, but I said no. I had already made plans with myself, and I didn’t want those plans to become the easiest ones to cancel.
I had actually intended to go to yoga early that morning. I had my clothes ready, woke up in time then Chloe woke up right before I was leaving and wanted me. That was a moment when flexibility made sense. Because I had already identified a second class I could take that evening, however, being flexible didn’t mean abandoning what I wanted to do.
There is a difference between changing the plan and continually postponing it.
Sometimes you need a second, even third option. You need enough flexibility to respond to your life without letting one interruption turn into ten days away from something that supports you. But eventually, there also has to be a point when you stop negotiating with yourself and decide: this is the option I’m keeping.
I’ve noticed that when I need to move something, it helps to reschedule it immediately. Not “tomorrow” or “later this week,” but for a specific time. If I leave the decision open and tell myself I’ll do it when I feel like it, it becomes much harder to rebuild consistency.
This applies to so much more than working out. It may be the writing you want to return to, the conversation you’ve been avoiding, the morning routine that helps you feel grounded or the next step in something that matters to you.
You may be waiting to feel motivated enough to begin again, but sometimes motivation returns after you move. The energy, confidence and momentum you remember aren’t always available before you start. Sometimes you have to show up first—and allow your experience to remind you why you wanted to do whatever it is.
Where have you been telling yourself you’ll get back to something tomorrow?
If today’s plan genuinely needs to change, can you give yourself another option instead of letting it disappear?
Decide when you are going to return to it, put it on your calendar and treat that commitment to yourself as something worth protecting.

What is one thing you’ve been telling yourself you’ll get back to?
Choose one specific action you can take today or this weekend. Schedule the class. Put an hour on your calendar to write. Send the message. Take the walk. If your first option doesn’t work, decide on your second one immediately—and then protect it.
Love to hear what it is for you…
And, if you have any topics you’d like to me to cover as we move fully into fall, school-mode, holidays—let me know.
Love,
Laurin
